Joy lives in Blairsville and has been active in many community and county activities over the years. She co-ordinated the Pioneers in the Park festival in 2003 that was part of the County Bicentennial celebration. She co-ordinated the art exhibits at the Covered Bridge Festival in 2008. She headed the committee to actively involve high school students in both of these events. The results were the murals that are on permanent display at the Indiana Co. Historical Society and the wooden quilt exhibit that was displayed for the Covered Bridge festival and the Festival of Lights.
